Family Law Attorneys Colorado Springs

Michael Lucas is one of our firm’s seasoned family law attorneys. Michael has been with Marrison Family Law for several years, focusing his practice on solely family law matters such as divorce, post-decree issues, and allocation of parental responsibilities. One of the aspects of family law that he most enjoys is helping our clients begin a new chapter of their lives by working with them to navigate the complexities and emotions they face during a very challenging time.

During his more than 30 years as a licensed attorney, Michael has been a family law attorney; a prosecutor and criminal defense attorney; an in-house government counsel and chief legal officer; and, an administrative hearing officer for the Colorado Department of Revenue presiding over driver’s license matters, especially those concerning DUI allegations.

He is an assertive negotiator and often can be more creative and get a better final result for you in most cases through mediation, or mediation/arbitration, rather than in a courtroom before a judge who does not know either you or your children. His philosophy is straightforward: learn the facts of the case because knowledge is power; always be a strong advocate for the legitimate goals of our clients; and, treat our client and the other side with the courtesy and professionalism to which they are entitled.

Michael obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice and criminology from Metropolitan State University Denver. He obtained his law degree from California Western School of Law in San Diego, California. As part of his legal career, Mike has also attended and taught courses at the National Judicial College in Reno, Nevada.

In his free time, Mike enjoys gardening, taking car trips with the convertible top down, and traveling throughout the Caribbean.

A native Coloradan, Joseph (Jad) was born and raised in Boulder where he attended Fairview High School.  In 2001, he graduated from the United States Air Force Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in History.  Jad started his Air Force career at Vance Air Force Base in Enid, Oklahoma.  While there, he attended flight school and found himself working in the Judge Advocate Office as a Legal Assistance Clerk. He immediately fell in love with the law.

In 2003, Jad moved to the Boston, Massachusetts to work for the Air Force as a Systems Program Manager.  He also started law school at the New England School of Law (NESL).  During his second year at NESL, Jad was transferred to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to work as an Operations Commander for Air Force Recruiting.  He also transferred to Marquette School of Law where he interned for the Wisconsin Supreme Court, was inducted into both the Marquette Pro Bono Society and Alpha Sigma Nu (Jesuit Honor Society).  In May 2009, Jad was admitted to practice law in Wisconsin.  In November 2009, Joseph was admitted to the Colorado bar.

In February 2010, Jad transferred to the Air Force Reserves and simultaneously became a Deputy District Attorney for the 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Jad went into private practice in 2012 where he engaged in family law, criminal defense, dependency and neglect defense, and municipal prosecution.   He has practiced, primarily, family lawyer in Colorado Springs, CO since 2012 and has developed a passion for the practice.

Jad is active in El Paso County’s legal community.  He is on the Pro Bono and Community Justice Center’s board of directors, a mentor attorney for Teen Court, and regularly assists clients at local pro bono clinics.  Jad loves the outdoors; and, in his free time, is frequently found with his family on the many hiking and ski trails Colorado has to offer.

As a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force Reserves, Jad is keenly aware of the interplay between family law and the military.  Jad further understands the effects that divorce and parenting time issues have on service members and their families, both while serving and after.

As a child of divorce, Jad believes that his personal and professional experiences aid him in relating to clients. Joseph is very aware that the effects of divorce are prevalent long after the formal ending of a marriage.  He will make it a point to keep his clients focused on their children and how their actions today will impact their future.
